Breast implant deal not all-inclusive

Joseph O'Connell, chief of plastic surgery at Bridgeport Hospital, said although there is no scientific evidence of a connection between silicone gel implants and medical ailments, he has heard of several women having complications with the implants.

"There's been study after study done... and there's never been any link," he said. [But] it would be wrong to totally ignore these women who've had problems with silicone gel implants."

O'Connell said although he doesn't believe there is a link between silicone augmentations and disease, he appreciates that, for women who've reported complications, the settlement is a "positive step to put the matter to rest."
