Labiaplasty
To get answers to the most frequent questions about Labiaplasty, please select one of the links below:
What is a labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty involves correction of protruding labia minora (the inner lips) of the femal external genitalia.

Why is labiaplasty performed?
While some women attribute functional problems to protruding labia minora, most labiaplasties in our practice are performed for aesthetic reasons.

How is a labiaplasty performed?
There are several different techniques available each with unique scar patterns as well as potential advantages and disadvantages. Dr. O'Connell believes it is important to determine whether the excess labial tissue is primarily in a vertical or anterior-posterior (front to back) dimension. The excess labial tissue is excised followed by closure itilizing sutures.

Where is labiaplastyperformed?
In most instances labiaplasty can be performed in the accreditaed surgical facility at Plastic Surgery of Southern Connecticut under local anesthesia with or without monitored sedation.

Are there risks associated with labiaplasty?
As with any medical or surgical procedure there are risks and potential complications. A thorough consideration of all risks, alternatives and potential benefits is an important part of the pre-operative consultative process.
